I think the set looks really good and I have loved the idea of the audience being a part of the set from day one.
The costumes look really good and will suit the character prefectly!

I luv the songs being used for the play..very rsl eightees!..
Lighting..id like to wish u good luk Mondi for calling the show and putting on all the lights and sounds/msuic and also well done taking on the Job of stage manager… (Good luck!!)
For all the actors..Good Luck…with lines ..your characters are all reallygood..a lot of laughs in the play…I love it and I think that the play will be a great success.

so…goof, moi and mond and our producer (Scottie) all met with the techies of the Bpac…and we gave them a basic overview of the set design…lightin ideas and sound ideas. the techies gave us … a list of things that we will need…including the types of lights and where they will go..and possible ideas of where sound can come from…
we have come to the coclusion that mini bar will happen in the set..and this will be where mond activates the sound and plays out his part of the stage manager/waiter.
The techies and I (set designer) realised that the things that I require for the set are quite simple…mainly the material for the walls, the thing that will keep the material and the platform for the main actors tables are needed.
So the set is actually happening and becoming much more of a reality than it has ever been!
For publicty…there are couple of ideas which Mond and I have brainstormed … to be used as little posters for our vce locker area…
thats all for now..

Sound:
with the sound… i am currrently downloading 80s music which will be played throughout our play. thursdaylunchtime me and jono will be going on the Apple computers and will be using a program called garage band in order to get other sounds which our cast can also use throughout after dinner..
eg: waiter calling, cuttlery sounds…. background music, coming into the restaurant music, exiting and various other sounds.
i am goin to go through the script of after dinner and write down possible times to put in sound for example
chef calls “order up”..or kitchen sounds
thats it for now.
thank you come again.

after dinner set..becoming a reality

the set will…eventually come to life:

the prints on the wall will be pictures of dogs playing poker and kendone paintings. these are both very 80’s, dogs playing poker pik is very Rsl bistro theme.
On the tables, there will be menus, 48..for each performance…, ashtrays (tin ones), salt and pepper shakers, metal menu holders..will need to get six , and flower vases with fake flowers.. (approx 12)
Mel need to meet with u and talk about all these objects for the tables.

For dressing the set, on the tables i think chequed table cloths would suit perfectly. The colours for the audience tables should differ from the actors’ ones.
Im thinking… red and white for audience tables and blue and white for actors’ tables.

ok..about organising tables and chairs..
there will be 10 rectangular trestle tables and 60 chairs for audience
and 2 round shaped tables and 6 diff chairs for actors

the 10 rectangular tables are at school..i just have to measure them and work out the fitting of them to the space.

the 2 round tables for the actors have to be hired. i have found a place in port melbourne which does hiring for approx. two weeks which will be perfect.. it is called place settings and the website is www.placesettings.com.au check out what tables they have..i have looked at the website to..just have to decided which ones we like and then send an email..and they will give me a quote for the 2 tables.

for the six chairs for the actors tables, i have found a place which is called Pylo steel furniture and would you believe it…IS actually on Burwood Hwy and they do hiring also for approx two weeks. I described to a worker there, on the phone aobut our play and setting, and they do have some chairs which may be probable. i have to visit there…and see which chairs would be good.

The 2 actors tables will be on a platform which will have carpet on it (to reduce shoe/chair noise) and will be either 2 platforms (one for each table) or 1 big one.

The carpet will just have to be covering the platforms…thats all..all we need is old carpet..mond…said he has some old creme coloured stored in a room or something..maybe if you could bring it to school..or take a picture or something ot show me/us..
if anyone is doin renovations /knows of anyone having renovations done, ask about any old/spare/used carpet available.

The dancefloor: it will be black and white cheque
im goin to visit places like bunnings to inquire about black and white chequed lino ..the dance floor only needs a couple of square metres.

thats whats goin down so far with set…ill get back to you all laters..
ciao

Production development..begins!!!

up till now…alot of my work has been refined and develped over time:
from choosing an arena stage, a thrust stage was chosen over the other option due to many factors..such as the actors dont want to have their back towards the audience at any time. It would’ve been a challenge to take on but we decided not to.
during our peformance, we were going to serve dinner, it has changed to snacks…and maybe no food on all..Our logo has changed. It is the logo on Monds blog, however with my added little picture of a waiter holding/serving a theatre mask.
We were originally going to have circular shaped tables, but instead i have organised square shaped tables…that are folding tables.
Throughout the process, i have listened to others opinions on my work, and have changed, adapted and switched ideas and plans around. This is how i have shown my ability to work collaboratively.
the things i have been doin so far to demonstrate my applicaiton of stagecraft is:
promotion : organised,changed, refined logo
thought of ways to promote play: at assembly, posters, flyers, on the loudspeaker, on the computer message screens, Mond and I have so far, put a small message about the upcoming yr 12 production, on the scopus captains website.
Set design:
list of things to go on table(table setting)
planned set
organised tables
organised ‘prints’ that will be used in our play setting
use classroom chairs
research on platforms for actor’s tables
research on 80’s bars/bistros
Designed setting matched to the ’space’ that we are going to use for our play setting
How my work will affect/link to others in the production team:
my set that i design, will affect Scot (the director) because he has to use the set and block to suit the actors and the play
the tables that i have ordered will link with Melinda (in charge of costume). she has to show me her ideas of what is on the table, n how to place the objects.
I have to also work/have worked with Mond(sound) and Goofball (lighting) to organise where lights and sounds will come from, within my set desi gn.
ciao..thats all for now…

Ok, i agree with mondy….Mond I like your idea bout the ticket pricing…maybe we have to consider if the audience will by tickets…for such pricing…and if two nights without food..and one night with..
but..the thing is…if there is only one night with food..i figure..that most people would want to come on that night..considering it would be fun and diferent with the added treats that we would supply with the show…let me know what you think…and i do like the idea of B.Y.O..but would our School let..hmm that is also another issue..?despite what the states rules and regulations are..!!but we will talk at school about it!

Ok…with promotion…I like Monds logo idea..but i was discussin the idea with scottie, how there is room on either side of the logo..we could put one of my designs on the logo aswell..eg.(the chef or waiter holding a theatre mask)…coz it make good of the space and i think it would look really good!

i was thinking of some way to promote our production…here are some ideas from brett(the technician from the BPAC)
1. at an assembly
2. take photos and stick around campus
3. posters, flyers
4. on the computer screens that have messages on them (eg. in the caff)
5.send invites out (may be too difficult)
those are just few ideas…if any of you have any more please let me know..
and that is for anyone hoo reads this!!!

for set design…i have sent a message to Wayne Porthouse ( a guy at school can organise these types of things) to try and organise tables …for our production:
here is the message i sent him:
Dear Wayne Porthouse,

I am Kimberley Schmideg and I am in charge of the set for the year 12 theatre studies production. Our play is unique in that the audience will set at round tables, as will the actors – the play is set in a restaurant.

Our preference would be to use round tables of which there are plentiful at Gandel Besen House. We require 2 of these tables from next week until the end of the production week which will be the 22nd of May. An extra 8 will be needed and I will require them from Bump-in on Monday the 14th of May until the 22nd. ‘

Also these tables will require transport from Gandel Besen to Burwood Campus (we are staging the play in the Space in the BPAC).
Kind Regards,
Kimberley Schmideg

thats it for now..if u guys have any ideas for set design or promotion…run them by me..
ciao for now

im thinking 80’s style table cloths…and the serviettes.(shaped lyk opera house..) ask scottie if confused..it will look rlly cool
i am also trying to organise the tables for next week
i have sent email to Wayne Porthouse about the tables at gandel besen (ask me at school..if you are confused…more!)

Set design soo far..:
ok..so our class have chosen After dinnner..i think it was because of the range of funny characters…great possible set ideas..blah blah..
ma two stage craft elements are set design and promoting
promoting will be alot of fun..hang out posters, cards, invitations and things lyk that
set design is pretty good so far…got some good ideas…because we are doing..after dinner..the set will be life a restaurant..but the audience will be part of the set…that creates a good actor/audience relationship..i guess….we were thinkin of havin like meals..but snacks are easier..
